Hillary Clinton’s efforts to claim the deadly neglect of veterans by Obama VA officials is all a made-up Republican conspiracy is drawing a harsh response from veterans, and investigators looking into the misconduct.
Responding to investigations finding over 64,000 veterans had medical procedures canceled in order to cover up a case backlog, and dozens of veterans died as a result, Clinton called it “overblown” and that Republicans invented the controversy.
“It’s not been as widespread as it has been made out to be,” Clinton said on MSNBC, even though the VA’s own inspector general called the scandal “widespread.”
Even with over 64,000 cases of neglect, Clinton dismissed veterans’ complaints as “overblown.”
Clinton’s attack on veterans came after a new investigation found the neglect is still occurring at the same VA facilities originally cited.
Veterans advocates are appalled.
“The VA scandal was caused by dishonest bureaucrats who chose to whitewash the department’s problems rather than solve them,” said House Veterans Affairs Committee chairman Jeff Miller (R-FL). “Those who repeat that same shameful pattern of behavior are only shortchanging veterans while giving failed VA bureaucrats cover for continued malfeasance.”
Miller took aim directly at Clinton’s politicization of the issue.
There is simply no denying that the problems at the Department of Veterans Affairs are indeed widespread,” he said. “Anyone who would claim the opposite simply isn’t paying attention.”
“Hillary Clinton has shown that just like the Obama Administration, of which she was a part, she will minimize the deep-rooted problems within the Department of Veterans Affairs and engage in partisan attacks against those who propose real and fundamental reform,” said Concerned Veterans of America CEO Pete Hegseth, himself a former U.S. Army major awarded two Bronze Stars.
