Democratic Representative Elijah Cummings passed away just a few months ago. Cummings spent his career as a Democrat representing an urban district anchored in Baltimore. He was first elected to represent the 39th district of Maryland in the State House in 1983 and began representing the 7th district in Congress after being elected in 1996.
