Leftists like to call Christopher Columbus a mass murderer and perpetrator of genocide, but this simply isn’t true. The running theory from the Left is that Columbus gave blankets to Native Americans in an insidious effort to spread disease.
This is a myth for three reasons: firstly, the spread of European diseases the indigenous population wasn’t inoculated to didn’t take hold until well after Columbus’ voyages.
Secondly, no one in Europe or Asia planned to become gem resistant, especially since no one knew what gems were. Societies where agriculture and animal domestication flourished first had a higher population density and over time people as a whole became resistant to certain epidemics. Such conditions never materials in the Americas.
Lastly, in order to knowingly spread the disease like the Left suggests Columbus did, he would need to have known about germ theory, which didn’t become popular until the mid-1800s.
