Minnesota has a notorious reputation as a Democratic stronghold, even voting for Walter Mondale over President Ronald Reagan by the slimmest of margins in 1984.

However, then-candidate Trump came within 1.5 percentage points of winning the Land of 10,000 Lakes – the closest margin since Mondale’s razor-thin victory 30 years before.

In 2018, Republicans picked up two congressional districts there, the First (Rochester, Mankato, Austin) and the Eighth (Duluth). Those victories came in part thanks to aggressive campaigning by President Trump. Now, he’s fixated on flipping the state next year by energizing the same voters he did in Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
