Oregon has been blue for a long time but maybe that can change (George Bush narrowly lost to Al Gore in 2000 by .44 points). Increasing dissatisfaction with Democratic leadership there has made statewide elections more competitive, despite consistently heavy turnout from urban centers like Portland and Eugene.
However, Trump’s campaign, flush with cash and a substantial headstart on its liberal competitors, now eyes the Beaver State to expand the map by investing time and money there.
Perhaps helping the president’s standing in the state’s swing areas (Salem, suburban/exurban Portland) Trump wants to move a substantial missile-defense system from South Korea to Rose City, Oregon (given the expanding range of North Korea’s arsenal).
