D-list celebrity Jussie Smollett fabricated a hate crime in Chicago in early 2019.
Smollett allegedly paid two Nigerian actors to pour beach on his clothes and tie a noose around his neck while wearing MAGA hats. The police debunked his story after they found a video of the two brothers buying masks prior to the “attack.”
Smollett ultimately got bailed out by a friend of Michelle Obama but the damage to his public image was irreparable.
