Despite filling a crucial needed, yet vacant position, Democrats protested Pizzella’s recent nomination at the Labor Department.
They complained about his time working for Jack Abramoff in the 1990s. Abramoff, a prominent Washington lobbyist, served nearly six years in prison for fraud, conspiracy, and tax evasion.
Pizzella was never charged nor investigated by authorities for Abramoff’s crimes.
Progressives also complained about Pizzella’s decision to lobby for the Northern Mariana Islands to keep its income tax-free status.
They argue he defended companies in that U.S. territory who opposed worker protections.
