Many have criticized Twitter for its censorship of free speech and it’s targeting of conservative figures. Acts like “shadowbanning” where a platform blacklists an account from searches and related content feeds are alleged to occur on the platform on a frequent basis. Twitter is the only platform of it’s kind, it is the only social media site that is text-based where Facebook and other sites are largely picture based. All these factors stack up and make multiple regulators likely to break up the platform, especially since Twitter is associated with Periscope, one of the largest live-streaming platforms in the world.
