William Randolph Hearst, a major media figure, criticized Roosevelt over the expansion of executive power in the New Deal and was subpoenaed for a private telegraph message soon after. Another leader of the newspaper industry was Frank Gannett, Gannett lead a committee that was opposed to what many described as a court-packing scheme by FDR. Gannett would find that the entire committee was subpoenaed and FDR contemplated prosecuting him.
