Daniel Inouye was one of seven US Senators to receive the Medal of Honor. He received the award for his service in WWII. While up against three German machine gun nests he managed to take down two of them before being wounded. He crawled toward the third and as he went to throw a grenade, a German grenade exploded above him almost separating his arm from his body entirely. He continued even after this, he threw his grenade into the machine gun nest and gunned down German soldiers while holding his submachine gun with only one hand.
