Beto O’Rourke is a maybe. The former congressman nearly defeated the prominent, yet relatively unpopular Senator Ted Cruz, in reliably red Texas. He proved to be a record-breaking fundraiser but has his own Achilles heel. In 1998, cops arrested O’Rouke for a DUI after committing a hit-and-run.
While trying to unseat Cruz, the then-El Paso area representative claimed, “I did not try to leave the scene of an accident,” a statement the Washington Post’s ombudsman gave “Four Pinocchios.”
