The incumbent Republican congressman from Minneapolis’ suburbs could’ve learned a valuable lesson from two GOP challengers in his very state, Jim Hagedorn and Peter Stauber, who picked off their Democratic challengers partly thanks to campaign stops by the president. 

Instead, Paulsen was routed by more than 11 points in a district with a similar Partisan Voter Index (PVI) to those now represented by Hagedorn and Stauber.
