You may have wondered why this list isn’t called the worst amendments that didn’t pass, well here is the one that unfortunately did.
Throughout the roaring twenties, prohibition banned all alcohol in the United States and it failed miserably.
The ban gave rise to the mafia, infiltrating the upper echelons of society. Organized crime begets more violent crime, and the attempt at regulating morality did nothing to curtail problems associated with alcoholism.
If this failed experiment shows us anything it is that nanny state tactics don’t work. Once set in their ways, people are going to do what they want. Human nature rarely changes. The right way to deal with these issues is by raising our children with a solid moral compass.
