Dueling is a very odd phenomenon by today’s standards. Two individuals, almost always men in petty disagreements, would get flintlock pistols, walk several paces apart and shot at each other. Sometimes they would shot in the air because getting shot isn’t the greatest thing in the world. This amendment didn’t ban the act of dueling as the name suggested, it banned people who had participated in duels from holding federal office. Imagining winning a duel only to be told that some of your opportunities are forever gone because of it, pretty lame. Never the less the Dueling ban amendment failed.
