Father of John F. Kennedy and Ambassador to Great Britain, Joe Kennedy Sr. harbored the same delusion as Chamberlain, that America and the United Kingdom could coexist with Nazi Germany. The idea of appeasement was probably made more comfortable by the fact Kennedy held anti-Semitic views. He strongly advised Roosevelt behind the scenes not to save Churchill’s Britain and to sue for peace.
Joe Kennedy wanted to be president himself, but his defeatism against Hitler sank his chances. If not for his vast wealth and connections, his son would not have become president either.
