Sixteen-year-old climate change activist Greta Thunberg lost her composure while speaking at the United Nations about climate change today.
Thunberg claims that humanity faces an unprecedented disaster.
Thunberg has stage parents, literally. Her mother was an internationally renowned opera singer until the teenager shamed her into quitting over the carbon emissions produced by air travel. Her father and grandfather are both well-known European filmmakers.
Thunberg appeared to use her acting chops in today’s speech as she warned of an apocalyptic future. (Daily Wire)
“My message is that we’ll be watching you. This is all wrong, I shouldn’t be up here, I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean,” Thunberg began. “Yet, you all come to us young people for hope, how dare you. You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words and yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering, people are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction and all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth.”
Thunberg’s speech, which was widely criticized online as bordering on child abuse, also included statements that could be perceived as threatening, including the statement: “If you choose to fail us I say we will never forgive you. We will not let you get away with this.”
President Trump arrived at the U.N. shortly after Thunberg’s speech. The two crossed paths briefly.
