High school football players in Georgia are protesting the protesters.
As National Football League players—and, in some cases, coaches and owners—lock arms and take a knee to protest the National Anthem, an entire team of players at Georgia’s Fannin County High School have decided to take the exact opposite approach.
At their game last Friday, each player ran onto the field carrying a U.S. flag.
The crowd—which was made up mostly of parents, other students, and local fans—loudly cheered the celebration.
“It was an awesome and unifying moment for the audiences on both sides of our stadium,” said district superintendent, Michael Gwatney. “And it reminded us that no matter what team we support, we are all Americans…. Our players certainly won the hearts of our community with their display of patriotism.”
The patriotic celebration was organized by Fannin County players and parents, with the coaches’ approval.
