President Trump has followed through on his promise to allow Americans who object to Obamacare’s stringent contraceptive mandates for religious or moral reasons to opt out of providing that service.
Under Obamacare, employers have to provide free contraception, sterilization procedures, and abortion-inducing drugs. But many Christian groups and even Christian-owned companies found that rule to be a violation of their religious liberty.
The controversial provision that demanded free birth control on healthcare plans wasn’t part of the original Obamacare law: Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius added it later on.
When Christian employers fought back, the Obama Administration decided to give “accommodations” under the guise of compromise.
Under the new Trump order, Christian employers will not have to pay for birth control at all if they have religious or moral objections.
Contrary to liberal hysteria, the change in the law will impact few women. The president’s executive order only applies to moral and religious objections and the vast majority of women will still receive comprehensive healthcare coverage from their medical providers.
