A CNN journalist mocked President Donald Trump for helping Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell—a polio survivor—up the stairs after their Rose Garden press conference.
“That hand-lock between Trump and McConnell, though,” tweeted CNN political journalist Daniella Diaz, accompanied by a short video clip where McConnell briefly gripped Trump’s hand while stumbling on the stairs outside the White House.

Twitter users were quick to point out that McConnell, 75, survived polio as a child during the Second World War and sometimes needs assistance on stairs. (RELATED: WATCH: CNN Gets Owned At The Worst Possible Time)
Even one of Diaz’s colleagues at CNN weighed in with an explanation.
“McConnell is a polio survivor, a reason why stairs can be tricky at times,” explained CNN’s Senior Congressional Correspondent Manu Raju on Twitter, quoting Diaz’s tweet. “McConnell often goes up a step at a time, sometimes needs railing for assistance. This time, used Trump for balance.”
Almost 48 hours later, Diaz has still not yet deleted the tweet or issued a correction.
