An illegal immigrant in Arizona has been arrested—for sexually assaulting an 80-year-old, bedridden woman.
An unidentified 60-year-old man told police that Jacobo Zelaya, 43, had attempted to rape his mother.
The 60-year-old said he “entered his residence and [heard] his mother yelling out of her bedroom.” The man then rushed to his mother’s bedroom, where he found Zelaya in his underwear, lying on top of the 80-year-old woman.
According to sources, Zelaya is an illegal immigrant, though it’s not clear when he came to the United States or where his home country is.
The 60-year-old man physically attacked Zelaya to defend his mother, but Zelaya escaped.
Police, however, caught up with Zelaya and arrested him later that day.
According to the criminal complaint, Zelaya “admitted to the offense of sexual assault” during his interrogation.
Zelaya has been charged with burglary of habitation with intent to commit a sex offense, a first-degree felony. He remains in custody, in place of a $70,000 bail.
