In a stunning announcement, Senator Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) revealed he would not seek reelection in 2018. Unsurprisingly, Flake took his moment in the spotlight to bash President Trump.
Throughout Trump’s presidency, Flake has been one of his most prominent critics on the Republican side of the aisle, much to the consternation of his constitutions and conservatives everywhere.
Polls have Flake behind his primary challenger and former state senator, Dr. Kelli Ward. One of the most recent showed the doctor with a healthy double-digit lead.
Immediately after news broke on Capitol Hill of Flake’s decision, the junior senator took to the floor of the chamber of that once-great deliberative body to explain his plans. His attempt to do so quickly devolved into a tedious, whiny speech claiming Donald Trump has had a poisonous effect on Washington, D.C.
In the aftermath of Flake’s impromptu pity party, Dr. Ward sent out what may very well be the Tweet of the day.
Arizona voters are the big winner in @JeffFlake‘s decision to not seek reelection. They deserve a strong, conservative in the Senate 1/2

Last week, Laura Ingraham and Steve Bannon joined Ward at a campaign rally in Phoenix. With Flake out, Ward’s path to victory just became more comfortable.
