There’s another startling hypocrisy inside Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation: two top Hillary Clinton aides lied to the same FBI agent that Trump’s former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn lied to – except there was one big difference.
That difference? Federal investigators let Hillary’s aides off scot-free, and Flynn is now facing charges for lying to the FBI.
Chuck Ross from The Daily Caller reports: “Neither of the Clinton associates, Cheryl Mills and Huma Abedin, faced legal consequences for their misleading statements, which they made in interviews last year with former FBI section chief Peter Strzok.”
“But another Strzok interview subject was not so lucky,” Ross added. “Michael Flynn, the former national security adviser, pleaded guilty last week to lying during an interview he gave on Jan. 24 to Strzok and another FBI agent.”
Ross added, “The starkly different outcomes from Strzok’s interviews — a felony charge against Flynn and a free pass to Mills and Abedin — are sure to raise questions from Republicans about double-standards in the FBI’s two most prominent political investigations. FBI Director Christopher Wray will likely be pressed on the Strzok scandal on Thursday when he attends an oversight hearing before the House Judiciary Committee.”
Peter Strzok, the agent who interviewed Flynn, Mills, and Abedin, has since been fired by Mueller from the Russia probe, after the Department of Justice found text messages from Strozk to his mistress depicting an anti-Trump bias before the 2016 election, while Strzok was investigating the Russia scandal. Strzok was fired by Mueller back in August, but the Special Counsel’s Office has thus far refused to comment on the role Strzok’s bias played during the investigation. They have also not discussed why Hillary’s aides were allowed to lie to the FBI without consequences, while prosecutors charged Flynn.
