Authorities are investigating a shooting near NSA Headquarters at Fort Meade, Maryland.
Garrison spokeswoman Cheryl Phillips confirmed that an incident took place earlier this morning at one of the NSA’s security vehicles entry gates, but that the situation was under control and there’s no ongoing security threat.
Arial footage from the scene showed a black SUV with multiple bullet holes in the front windshield crashed into a white security barrier. A man could be seen sitting next to the vehicle handcuffed.
Emergency personnel has closed offramps to what NSA employees call “the campus” and there are substantial travel delays for local commuters.
Despite clear highway signs, civilian drivers occasionally take the wrong exit and wind up at the security checkpoints. Most motorists carefully follow the commands of heavily-armed, armor-clad federal agents and extract themselves without getting into more trouble.
