Reports indicate that Omar Mateen, the Islamic terrorist who claimed the lives of 49 innocents at the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando, could have been stopped before his deadly rampage.

As Mateen’s radical views crystalized, his visceral hatred for America became more apparent.

Mateen attempted to purchase high-end body armor at a local gun store a few weeks before the shooting. When employees revealed the store didn’t carry the brand he wanted, Mateen made a call in a foreign language and proceeded to ask about purchasing 1,000 rounds of ammunition in bulk. By now, the staff became “very suspicious” and turned him away. A salesperson promptly contacted the local FBI office in West Palm Beach, Florida

While there was a follow-up telephone conversation with FBI agents, the Bureau never visited the store or investigated further.

Making matters worse, the FBI investigated Mateen – twice – in 2013 and 2014 for reported ties to Islamic extremists and determined he wasn’t a threat.

In response to widespread criticism, then-FBI Director James Comey said he didn’t see anything that his “agents should have done differently.”
