Things keep getting worse for the Broward County Sheriff’s Department in the wake of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.
According to first responders’ testimony, when Coral Springs police officers arrived on the scene, they were horrified to find not only Broward County Sheriff’s Deputy Scot Peterson, the school resource officer who had fled the building – but three additional deputies waiting outside as well. The deputies had their pistols drawn, yet cowered behind their police cruisers.
Coral Springs police soon entered the building where the shooter was reportedly engaged. New Broward County Sheriff’s deputies arrived afterward, and two of them immediately went into the school.
Still, the Coral Springs police are outraged by the inaction of the initial four responders.
Tensions boiled over at a vigil the following evening, when Coral Springs City Manager, Mike Goodrum excoriated Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel. Those close to the city manager say Goodrum was incensed that deputies waited outside while kids inside likely bled out.
Sheriff Israel was painfully aware of this before CNN’s anti-gun show trial, ahem, “town hall,” where he resorted to trashing the NRA and Dana Loesch – putting the blame and body count on them.
