The Democratic mayor of Quincy, Massachusetts, has left his party – due to the Democrats’ abortion crusade.

Mayor Tom Koch, who had been a Democrat since he could register to vote, privately made his decision last year, after Tom Perez, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, made it clear that pro-life Americans would not have a place in the Democratic Party.

Koch quietly left the party in 2017 but hasn’t publicly discussed his decision until now.

After Perez’s comments, Koch decided, “OK, I guess that’s the last straw for me,” he explained in an interview.

“The party platform is so far-left on abortion it’s sickening,” he continued, saying that, as a devout Catholic, he believes that “life starts at conception.”

Quincy, Massachuttes, a suburb of nearly 100 thousand on the southern edge of the Boston metro area, is heavily Democratic, like the rest of the state – but a slim majority of voters register as independents. Since mayoral elections in Massachusetts are officially nonpartisan, Koch’s party switch won’t likely cost him his job.

Nationally, Koch seems to be on the side of the American people: while the Democratic Party favors abortion-on-demand, 72 percent of Americans believe that there should be at least some restrictions on the procedure.
