After being attacked on social media by conservative talk show host Laura Ingraham, Parkland shooting survivor and anti-gun activist David Hogg called for an advertiser boycott of her show.
Ingraham apologized as eight companies (Nutrish, TripAdvisor, Wayfair, Expedia, Nestle, Johnson & Johnson, Jos A Bank, and Hulu) announced they were canceling their ads on her program.
It started on Wednesday when Ingraham pointed out on Twitter that four universities had rejected Hogg.
David Hogg Rejected By Four Colleges To Which He Applied and whines about it. (Dinged by UCLA with a 4.1 GPA…totally predictable given acceptance rates.) https://t.co/wflA4hWHXY

The injudicious tweet was followed by one from Hogg, where he called on his 600,000 Twitter followers to boycott Ingraham’s advertisers.
Soooo @IngrahamAngle what are your biggest advertisers … Asking for a friend. #BoycottIngramAdverts

To many, Hogg’s boycott seemed to be overkill. Especially coming from someone who has repeatedly slandered his opponents. However, advertisers fled Ingraham’s show.
Jane Carpenter, the head of public relations for TripAdvisor, said in a statement to Vice News: “In our view, these statements focused on a high school student cross the line of decency. As such, we have made a decision to stop advertising on that program.”
Ingraham then apologized about the tweet to Hogg in a series of tweets.
Any student should be proud of a 4.2 GPA —incl. @DavidHogg111. On reflection, in the spirit of Holy Week, I apologize for any upset or hurt my tweet caused him or any of the brave victims of Parkland. For the record, I believe my show was the first to feature David…(1/2)

… immediately after that horrific shooting and even noted how “poised” he was given the tragedy. As always, he’s welcome to return to the show anytime for a productive discussion. WATCH: https://t.co/5wcd00wWpd (2/2)

Hogg for his part has refused to accept Ingraham’s apology. Instead, he called her to condemn Fox News Channel for their treatment of him and other anti-gun activists.
Hogg has not been afraid to launch personal attacks himself. At the March For Our Lives rally last Saturday, Hogg put orange price tags on the podium and accused Florida Senator Marco Rubio of “putting a price tag on kid’s lives” by accepting NRA money. Despite the fact Rubio has passed school safety legislation in the wake of the Parkland shooting and worked in a bipartisan manner, Hogg says his attacks on the Senator have not been provocative enough.
Hogg has also called the NRA “child murderers” on multiple occasions. Hogg also instigated a boycott of companies who gave NRA members discounts.
To this reporter, it appears politics – not civility – is the real reason behind the Ingraham boycott.
