Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards is urging people to consider adoption first – but only when it comes to dogs.
On Tuesday, Richards posted a photo of her pet Dachshund on Twitter, as she prepares to depart for a two-week book tour.
Included in her tweet’s caption? The hashtag “#AdoptDontShop.”
According to animal rights group PETA, the slogan “adopt, don’t shop!” encourages people to consider adopting pets from shelters, calling it the “compassionate choice.”
“Those of us who love animals will hopefully continue to raise awareness of animal exploitation,” said PETA, on their website. “We can speak up for animal welfare, and when it comes to adding a new nonhuman member to the family – adopt, don’t shop!”
Richards seems to care about giving every dog a home – but her compassion doesn’t translate to unborn children.
According to Planned Parenthood’s 2017 annual report, the organization performed 321,384 abortions and made just 3,889 adoption referrals.
