Escondido became the latest city to join President Donald Trump’s lawsuit challenging California’s “sanctuary city” policies after a fiery city council debate.
…
The Escondido City Council voted 4-1 to join the lawsuit challenging the legality of California’s policies meant to undermine the enforcement of federal immigration law. The decision was made after hours of angry public comments, including outbursts and testy recriminations.
One man who spoke at the meeting said that he was a legal immigrant and that it was unfair for others to come in illegally.
“I speak to you as an immigrant myself. I came to this country 45 years ago with me and my mother. OK?” he said angrily. “45 years ago we were not offered sanctuary, we were not offered an easier softer way, OK? We were told you have to be an American citizen and here’s what you have to do — and we did it.”
