One of the most elite colleges in the country launched a new program to give free tuition for illegal immigrants, even as they continue to charge full tuition to many U.S. citizens.
Emory University, located in Atlanta, launched a new program called “Need-Based Financial Aid Program for Undocumented Students, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) Students.”
According to Emory’s Financial Aid website, the program provides “all undocumented students (with or without DACA)… financial aid funds to assist them in meeting their demonstrated need.”
Emory’s tuition for the 2017-2018 academic year is $69,502, including living expenses.
Curiously, Emory bans what they call “international students” from applying to this program – even if they attended a U.S. high school. Meaning that even legal immigrants, who are in the U.S. on a temporary legal visa, are not eligible to apply for the program.
The program isn’t Emory’s first time flouting U.S. immigration law, despite receiving a whopping $384 million in federal funding in 2017. Last September, the university’s administration signed onto a letter demanding Congress pass a so-called “DACA fix,” which would allow more than a million illegal immigrants to stay in the United States legally.
