Thanks to President Trump’s hard line on North Korea, tensions on the Korean Peninsula have thawed to historic levels.

Now, even Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is admitting that Trump’s unprecedented success there could earn him the Nobel Peace Prize.

At Saturday night’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Pelosi was asked by reporters about the rumors that Trump could be a contender for the coveted prize.

“We’re a long way from that, but let’s see,” Pelosi said. “There’s always an opportunity for a president of the United States to qualify. Let’s see how it goes.”

The historic meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in signaled the likely end of the Korean War – which has been, officially, a stalemate for 65 years. It also indicated that Trump’s aggressive approach to North Korea appears to be working.

Earlier this year, Trump also announced he would personally meet with Kim Jong-un – the first time a U.S. President has sat down with the North Korean leader – to work out a deal to end the war and denuclearize North Korea.

“The United States has never been closer to potentially have something happen with respect to the Korean Peninsula that can get rid of the nuclear weapons, can create so many good things, so many positive things, and peace and security for the world,” said Trump, on Monday.

When even Nancy Pelosi admits that Trump could become a Nobel Prize winner, it’s clear the president is getting it right: the U.S. has never been closer to disarming North Korea.
