Thousands of residents were forced to flee their homes on Hawaii’s Big Island this weekend when a magnitude 6.9 earthquake sparked the eruption of Mount Kilauea.
Throughout the weekend Kilauea released molten lava as high as 230 feet in the air and clouds of toxic gas.
A total of 10 fissures have opened up on the volcano’s eastern slope, whose glow astronauts can see from space.
According to civil defense officials, there’s no sign of the eruption slowing down.
