Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) admitted on national television the reason she wasn’t emphatic about the alleged mistreatment of illegal immigrant children during the Obama administration was that she wasn’t fully aware of it.

Feinstein introduced a bill last week to stop separating illegal immigrant children and their parents after being detained.

In an appearance on CNN, she explained her visceral reaction to a photograph depicting undocumented children, temporarily separated from their parents, in a holding cell.

However, the host, Jake Tapper promptly corrected her – pointing out that the photograph was taken in 2014 when Barack Obama was president. To his credit, Tapper pushed the Senator on her sudden, seemingly calculated change of heart. (CNS News)

“There were a lot of things done to undocumented immigrants that the immigration — the immigrant community was very upset about during the Obama years that Democrats didn’t seem as outspoken about. What do you say to people who say, where was all this activism during the Obama years?” Tapper asked.

“I don’t believe that it was nearly to the extent that it is today. And, candidly, I didn’t really know enough about it at that time to focus on it. I do know enough about it now. We have had a hearing in the Judiciary Committee. We did have testimony,” Feinstein said.

So far, Feinstein’s bill has 31 co-sponsors.
