An officer who served in the Iraqi Army under Saddam Hussein is now the new leader of ISIS after the killings of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and his likely replacement by American special forces (The Sun).

Abdullah Qardash – known as the Professor – has now assumed day-to-day control of the jihadi group – who heralded the news by vowing to target the US.

Baghdadi was killed when U.S. forces stormed his compound in northwestern Syria and he blew up self-up with a suicide vest after being cornered in a tunnel.

Confirming Qardash’s new role, ISIS stated: “Whosoever fulfills what he has covenanted with Allah…he will bestow on him a great reward.”

The terror group then goes on to warn America not to “rejoice in the killing” of its former leader before adding future attacks will not be limited to the Middle East.

Qardash went on to taunt Americans by alleging that ISIS has spread its tentacles into North Africa and even Europe. While this isn’t proven, there are Islamic extremists sympathetic to ISIS’s message in both places.
