After a period of detente, Jimmy Kimmel reignited his long-simmering feud with Fox News star Sean Hannity.
In a new interview, the increasingly-liberal television host chastized Hannity as a “lunatic” capable of saying anything regardless of the facts.
Claire Spellberg writes:
Kimmel didn’t hold back about his feud with Hannity. “That he would compare me to Harvey Weinstein, it’s just ridiculous,” he told The Daily Beast, referencing a tweet in which Hannity called him “Harvey Weinstein Jr.” after posting a clip of his old series The Man Show. “Sean Hannity seems conveniently aware of the fact that the show was on television and that everyone involved was a willing participant,” he said.
Ultimately, Kimmel ended the feud because he realized that it wasn’t accomplishing anything. “I realized somewhere along the line I wasn’t going to win anybody over in that argument,” he said. “His supporters are on his side, mine are on my side, and that’s kind of that.
In the interview, Kimmel also sounded off on the bizarre circumstances surrounding Omarosa’s cancelled Jimmy Kimmel Live! appearance. In 2004, the Apprentice contestant was supposed to appear on the late-night show, but she freaked out and abruptly left before she took the stage. According to Kimmel, he was planning on giving “a fake lie detector test” to his Uncle Frank, but Omarosa saw the equipment and assumed she was the one being interviewed.
“She saw the setup for the lie detector test and decided we were going to spring it on her,” he said. Omarosa “stormed out of there,” leaving Kimmel with no guest, but the host wasn’t bothered by her sudden departure. “I didn’t want to have her on the show. The woman — there’s clearly something wrong with her. And the fact that Donald Trump hired her is really all you need to know about that guy and his organization.”
