Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is breaking his silence after disturbing allegations of sexual assault threaten to derail his confirmation – permanently. (The Hill)
Kavanaugh in a new statement called the woman’s accusation a “completely false allegation.”
“This is a completely false allegation. I have never done anything like what the accuser describes—to her or to anyone,” Kavanaugh said. “Because this never happened, I had no idea who was making this accusation until she identified herself yesterday.”
…
Christine Blasey Ford, a California-based academic, went public on Sunday with her accusation that Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed and tried to pull off her clothes during a high school party in the 1980s.
Ford’s attorney said earlier Monday that her client is also willing to testify publicly about the charges.
Ford privately came forward over the summer, when Kavanaugh was merely a name on Trump’s shortlist.
Years ago, she told a therapist of an attempted rape by fellow students who became “highly respected and high-ranking members of society in Washington.” The therapist’s notes from that session corroborate her accounting.
Ford says she worried, justifiably, that coming forward would expose her to vicious attacks.
