An elderly New York state man is dealing with the repercussions of threatening the lives of two U.S. senators. (Washington Examiner)
The man, identified as 74-year-old Ronald DeRisi of Smithtown, N.Y., left more than 10 threatening voicemails with the offices of the two senators, who were not identified, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.
The messages were related to Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court and, according to the Justice Department, DeRisi left the voicemails with the goal of discouraging the senators from backing Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
In one message left with the first senator on Sept. 27, DeRisi allegedly threatened to shoot the senator.
During Justice Kavanaugh’s confirmation several senators, including Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Susan Collins, R-Maine, employed police escorts to shield themselves from confrontational protesters.
