Listening in on the July 25 call between Trump and Zelensky, Vindman perceived Trump asking for a favor to investigate the Bidens and Burisma Holdings as an order.
Vindman’s perception comes from his exposure to the strict hierarchy in the U.S. Army and the power imbalance between President Trump and President Zelensky.
However, Col. Vindman has never spoken to the president and doesn’t know his thinking on this matter.
Utah Republican Chris Stewart followed a practical strategy by praising Vindman for his service while sternly calling the decorated soldier’s characterization of the phone call as “nonsense.”
While Vindman said that “when a superior makes a request, that’s an order,” Congressman Stewart – who served 14 years in the Air Force – said it wasn’t fair to project expectations drilled in by years of military training onto those who haven’t served.
