The Washington Post reported that when Espy served as President Clinton’s Agriculture Secretary, he was forced to resign for accepting gifts from officials.
The most noteworthy of these was from Tysons Food, Inc. It was a scholarship for Espy’s girlfriend.
The conflict of interest from such a high-profile quid pro quo is clear.
