By all accounts, Bob Dole should’ve died in 1945 after German machine gun fire racked his upper back and right arm.
George H.W. Bush miraculously survived when his Japanese flak hit his aircraft the previous year during a bombing run that claimed the lives of both his crewmates.
Yet, on Tuesday, the 95-year-old Dole rose out of his wheelchair to pay his respects to a fellow member of the Greatest Generation and recently deceased President George H.W. Bush.
The poignant scene silenced the bustling Capitol rotunda.
