Virtually every opinion poll succumbed to errors during the 1992 general election in the United Kingdom.
Nearly all taken, including exit polls, showed the left-wing Labour Party with the lead.
The actual results gave the ruling Conservative Party a decisive victory.
Embarrassed pollsters attributed their failure to two critical factors:
- A late swing by undecided voters to Conservatives.
- And the not-so-minor fact Tory voters were less inclined to express their support publicly to intolerable liberals.
Hmm, that sounds oddly familiar.
