The acting commissioner of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has announced his resignation after reports surfaced that detained migrant children are residing in unsanitary, even dangerous conditions.

Per the New York Post:

News of John Sanders’ resignation comes as the agency returned more than 100 children to a remote Border Patrol station in Clint, Texas.

Sanders’ last day will be July 5.

“Although I will leave it to you to determine whether I was successful, I can unequivocally say that helping support the amazing men and women of CBP has been the most fulfilling and satisfying opportunity of my career,” he wrote in his resignation letter.

A group of lawyers who recently visited the Texas facility found hundreds of children as young as 7 sleeping on the floor, lacking food and clothing, and living in overcrowded conditions for months.

During a media scrum in the Oval Office today, President Trump told reporters he wasn’t happy with the conditions facing migrant children at said detention centers.

“I’m very concerned, and they’re much better than they were under President Obama by far,” Trump said.
