Among the list of names tossed out by Sanders’ team is Ben Jealous, the former NAACP president.
After being chosen to lead the NAACP at the age of 35, the Washington Post described him as “one of the nation’s most prominent civil rights leaders.”
Jealous’ progressive bona fides are well known. He endorsed Sanders in his 2016 presidential campaign before switching his support to Hillary Clinton after she became the nominee.
Sanders returned the favor in 2018, endorsing Jealous in his campaign to unseat Maryland’s Republican Governor Larry Hogan.
Hogan won dark blue Maryland by a wide margin.
