Former Rep. Keith Ellison won a competitive election for Minnesota attorney general in 2018 despite allegations of domestic abuse from two ex-girlfriends.
While in Congress, Ellison served as the Democratic National Committee’s number two and as vice-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
After Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton, Ellison joined the race to chair the Democratic National Committee. He promptly gained support from Sanders; however, Ellison’s candidacy prompted renewed scrutiny over his affiliation with Louis Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam.
