This morning, we reported that polling suggested Ben Carson was the new GOP frontrunner. This information followed a broad trend a few weeks long that had Carson surging ahead of Trump for the nomination, and suggested that Carson has solidified his lead by gaining the trust of social conservatives who admired his stances on abortion and religious liberty. Over the last few weeks, several polls suggested their might be a new frontrunner.

Not so fast.

Today, additional polling came out that suggested Donald Trump is still the frontrunner:

Donald Trump is holding strong to his position as the GOP front-runner in the first major poll of likely Republican voters conducted after last month’s controversial CNBC debate.

Thirty-one percent of respondents surveyed by Reuters/Ipsos threw their support to presidential candidate Trump — 13 percent more than those who said they favored the second-place candidate, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson.

An IBD poll suggests Trump leads Carson by five points. Perhaps the next debate, which is one week away, will help establish a clear leader in the field. For now, it seems like a political class that has been completely wrong about everything this election will continue to be befuddled.
