President Obama told a meeting of his political machine, Organizing For Action, that blocking the Keystone XL Pipeline was a “key accomplishment of his presidency.” Obama was speaking about what he thought were the big accomplishments of his 7 years in office.

The AP reports that Obama actually claimed quite a few accomplishments.

President Barack Obama is already citing the decision not to proceed with the Keystone XL pipeline as one of the key accomplishments of his presidency.
Obama is speaking to the group Organization for Action. He is recounting the improving economy and job numbers and the higher number of people with health insurance coverage. But he is adding to the list of accomplishments the decision to kill a Canadian energy giant’s application to build the pipeline.

Of course the economy has largely stagnated throughout much of his presidency. The economy has often grown at anemic rates such as 1.5% growth that was claimed last quarter. The Obama economy has simply not kept the robust growth most Americans demand.

As for the health insurance coverage, studies have found the vast majority of that was through Medicaid expansion to able-bodied adults. Many hard-working Americans have had their healthcare coverage cancelled as a result of Obamacare’s mandates.

The Keystone XL pipeline would have produced at least 13,000 new jobs. It also would’ve enhanced America’s energy security by giving a stable allied country, Canada, more a role in meeting American energy needs.
