Sweden was one of the European countries that opened their doors to refugees fleeing the violence in the Middle East. Their doors were so open, in fact, that they have no idea who came in:
Of the 21,748 people who have been given deportation orders by Sweden’s Migration Agency last month – the largest number in history, by the way – 14,140 are registered by police as “departed” or “wanted,” the Swedish website The Local reports.
“We simply don’t know where they are,” said Patrik Engström, the head of the national border police.
It is unknown how many of the missing are still in the country or may have left for elsewhere in Europe. The rest of the illegals are either in refugee centers, in custody, or living in separate accommodations they have arranged for themselves, awaiting deportation.
The Swedish government has previously announced it wants to step up efforts to ensure that people without the legal right to stay in Sweden exit the country. But police say most of its resources are currently devoted to carrying out ID checks after Sweden stepped up border controls.
“It’s a huge task and it is completely dependent on the police being allocated resources,” said Engström.
Why is this problematic? Sweden, long known for it’s culutral homogeneity, has now become a breeding ground for terrorism. As the Local noted, it’s become one giant terror recruiting center:
Gothenburg, in western Sweden is, per capita, the European city from which most people have joined Islamic extremist groups, according to Swedish integration police chief, Ulf Boström.
The largest of these groups is Islamic State (Isis), which claims to have carried out the terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday that killed 129 people.
Boström, who works with the Muslim community in Gothenburg, told Swedish newspaper Göteborg-Posten on Sunday that Isis “has the strength, intellectual capacity and ability to coordinate. They are no fools.”
Previous statistics from the Swedish security service, Säpo, suggest that just over 300 Swedish nationals have left the country to travel to fight with Islamic extremist groups in Syria and Iraq.
Americans should be watching Sweden like a hawk. In an era when government in the United States is broken at every level, it’s hard to believe politicians who tell us that they’ll do everything they can to keep us safe. Accepting refugees without the proper resources and vetting process endangers us all.
