This is sick:
Turning the table on conservative Christians, the Satanic Temple is suing Missouri’s governor and attorney general in federal court, alleging that the state’s abortion restrictions violate their sincerely held religious beliefs.
Defending a woman’s right to a safe and legal abortion, the Satanic Temple filed a lawsuit in federal court on Tuesday challenging Missouri’s “informed consent” and waiting period laws, which the temple claims violate members’ sincerely held religious beliefs.
The lawsuit, filed on behalf of The Satanic Temple and a Missouri member identified only as “Mary Doe,” alleges Missouri’s restrictions on abortion constitute a governmental endorsement of religion. In a novel argument, the suit argues that Missouri’s abortion laws violate the U.S. Constitution’s Establishment Clause, which prohibits the government from endorsing a particular religious belief. The Satanists argue that Missouri’s abortion regulations promote the religious belief “that human tissue is, from conception, a separate and unique human being whose destruction is morally wrong.”
In the lawsuit, the Satanists show Missouri’s “informed consent” counseling and waiting period are not medically necessary to make an informed decision on an abortion.
The money quote offered by the atheists:
The question of when life begins is absolutely a religious opinion, and the state has no business proselytizing religious beliefs.
The notion that when life begins is not a matter of scientific fact is seemingly all the radical pro choice lobby has going for it these days. Funny that people who would suggest something so ludicrous spend most of their days bashing Christians for being anti-science. lAs the National Review’s David French noted, Satanists are becoming the new face of the pro chioce movement for good reason:
A person who is willing to kill another person for the sake of preserving their own prosperity or emotional health is declaring that their life is supreme — their existence is at the center of all things. This is the core of Satanist theology. So when Satanists declare their creeds, they strike uncomfortably close to the rotten core of the abortion-rights regime.
Some have suggested it’s more insidious than that, and that Satanists perform abortions as part of a religious ceremony. Whatevere the case may be, this can’t be the sort of association the radical pro choice movement is comfortable with, and if they are, the American people will soon turn on them.
