Rand Paul has said that he won’t participate in a second tier debate, at the so-called “kid’s table,” but right now it appears that he may be forced to do just that, alongisde Carly Fiorina and John Kasich.
But not so fast. As Kevin Boyd, writing at Rare, reports, Rand is now passing establishment favorite Jeb Bush:
The struggling Jeb Bush campaign received even more disappointing news in the latest CNN poll released Wednesday.
Bush comes in at 3 percent, behind Rand Paul who gets 4 percent. Jeb held steady from last month’s CNN poll while Paul gained 3 points.
As for the nominee leaders, CNN reports:
Donald Trump seems set to end 2015 as the dominant force in the race for next year’s Republican nomination for president, with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz now a clear — yet distant — second after a strong debate performance, a new CNN/ORC poll released on Wednesday has found.
Trump tops the field with 39%, according to the poll of Republican and Republican-leaning registered voters. That’s more than double the share backing Cruz, who, at 18%, has inched up 2 points since the last CNN/ORC poll, which was taken in late November.
Trump has been a constant atop the polls since his ascent to the lead in July, and this new poll marks the first time Cruz stands significantly apart from the other candidates vying for the nomination. Behind those two, Ben Carson and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio have each slipped a few points and now stand tied at 10%.
Trump gained three points from last month. Cruz gained two points. Rubio slipped two points and Carson slipped four points.
A debate stage featuring Donald Trump. Ted Cruz, and Rand Paul would certainly infuriate establishment Republicans. Expect them to use their connections to find a way to keep him OFF the main stage.
