Paul Ryan used to be a conservative hero. He was picked to be Mitt Romney’s running mate in 2012 in order to consolidate conservative support for the more moderate Romney. He was just elected speaker last year as a consensus candidate to unite conservatives and more moderate Republicans.
However, it seems that conservatives are done with Paul Ryan. Last month, he pushed Congress to pass a budget bill that funded the entire Obama agenda from amnesty to Planned Parenthood. Ryan’s budget also increased the number H-2B visas that allow companies to replace blue collar Americans with cheap foreign labor.
A recent poll from YouGov shows that Ryan is paying for it among conservatives. Ryan’s approval rating has dropped substantially as reported by Breitbart.
“Favorable ratings of Ryan from Republicans have dropped 24 points since early November,” YouGov announced when releasing the new Economist/YouGov polling data.
Ryan’s favorability with Republican voters has dropped below 50 percent for the first time in his Speakership, as well, as he’s now fallen to just 45 percent favorability among Republicans. Of Republicans polled, he is viewed by a mere 18 percent as very favorable while 27 percent view him as somewhat favorable.
Among all voters, Ryan’s favorability ratings are even lower—just 29 percent. Among all those polled, a paltry 8 percent view Ryan as “very favorable” while just 21 percent view him as “somewhat favorable.”
Only 29% of Republicans saw Ryan as someone who stuck to his guns.
Meanwhile, with today’s executive gun control announcement by President Obama, conservatives piled on. Talk show host Laura Ingraham blamed Paul Ryan giving Obama everything he wanted in the budget for it. Meanwhile, Breitbart also published an article denouncing Ryan for supporting expanded background checks in 2013.
Speaker Ryan is set to host a forum on poverty in South Carolina on January 9th. Seven presidential candidates are set to attend.
